History
Credit Counseling Centers of Oklahoma, Inc opened its doors in 1968 with three employees dedicated to assisting people with financial problems. We were granted our Articles of Incorporation in 1970. The following year, we received our 501(C) 3 IRS ruling.
Standards of Excellence
National Foundation for Credit Counseling, Inc (NFCC): Founded in 1951, the NFCC through its member agencies, sets the national standard for quality credit counseling, debt reduction services and financial literacy training. As the nation's largest and longest serving nonprofit credit counseling organization, the NFCC has played a major role in providing financial counseling and education to consumers for more than 50 years. With 103 member agencies and more than 1,000 local offices throughout the country, the NFCC is the national voice for its members, which are nonprofit, mission driven, community based agencies.
Council on Accreditation (COA): COA is an international, independent, not-for-profit, accrediting organization.It was founded in 1977. Its purpose is to ensure compliance with best practices standards. Member agencies must be re-accredited every four years.
Tulsa Area United Way (TAUW): Established in 1924, TAUW funds local health and human service
organizations through a process that includes an annul review by a committee of community volunteers. Credit Counseling Centers of Oklahoma, Inc was granted full membership into TAUW in 1981.
Counselor Certification: Within 12 months of hire, all counselors must become certified through the NFCC. The certification process is a comprehensive, quality training program that guarantees counselors have the ability to provide quality education and assistance to consumers. To maintain certification, counselors must earn personal development units during a two year period. This certification process ensures that clients receive the best service.
